-------------------------------------------------------

Club Meeting Minutes from 7/11/2026 at Wolfsmiths

-------------------------------------------------------

Club news reel....

o Our 2026 Annual Club Rally will be at the Oak Thicket

Park in Lake Fayette from October 30 to November 1. This

covers the daylight savings weekend. The Club has reserved

two cabins for this year, but we may just release them

unless members want to pay for them. Some of us plan to

stay at the Best Western in La Grange, just a few minutes

down the road (I have my reservations already). Planning

for our Club's 60th Year Anniversary continues.

****** Registration starts Saturday, August 1st ******

o We had 19 participants in the Club meeting conducted

at Wolfsmiths [7/11], which was impressive as we had a

Thunderstorm bearing down on us.

o Fernando's training corner provided a summary of how

to go about replacing and/or straightening the front

forks on the bike.

o Jerry Matson provided a visual slide show on his

recent riding vacation into Spain and France.

o A roadguardians.org Basic 100 Class is being offered on

Saturday, September 27 in Houston from 9am-5pm. See link

https://roadguardians.org/event/houston-tx-26-1125/

Location is American Legion Post #560, 3720 Alba Rd,

Houston 77018. This is 12 minutes west of Wolfsmiths.

Cost is $50 and they have 18 spots right now.

o BMW Car Club and our BMW Motorcycle club will once again

have a combined gathering of the two clubs at the BMW Car

Dealership in Katy on Sunday, October 11th. Ride your

Classic bikes if possible.

o Next Tech Day will be in early October. To be Announced.

o We had a Ride to Eat (RTE) on Saturday July 18th, that

toured the Kemah/Seabrook area, and concluded at the LONE

STAR FLIGHT MUSEUM (at EFD). The club covered most of the

entry fees as the museum had a $10 day special going on.

Most of the 15 participants ended up talking in the Minuti

Coffee shop afterwards.

o Safety on Two Wheels is offering Advanced Street Training

and Offroad courses. See the website safetyontwowheels.org

o Wild West Motoplex in Katy will have the BMW Demo truck

onsite 8/14-8/15. Prior registration for rides is required.

Haven and Davy Parsons, or check www.mphcycles.com.

check jbcycleworks.com

or check motorcycles-unlimited.com

BMW repairs/mods. 973-775-3495

o Motorcycles Unlimited - Contact Patrick for tires.

Supported Activities ...

o Jerome Istin is looking for more MS150 Motorcycle

Marshall participants to start in October of 2026.

Contact him at jerome.istin@gmail.com.

o Jerry Matson coordinated the IRONMAN Motorcycle

support group on April 18th. He was 2-3 riders

short in 2026, and some riders had to ride longer

than anticipated. As the IRONMAN organization

contributes $$$$ to our Club, we need to step up

and fully support this event for Jerry.

VP Corner ...

o I purchased a pair of EKON RoadArmor Riding Pants from

ekontravel.com. They seem to fit well, but the knee pads

aren't quite located properly. I've also seen comments

that these same pants are sold as another brand on Amazon

cheaper, as both were drop shipped from China. Also they

are apparently not waterproof.

o I purchased a set of ZOUND Earplugs (21dB) to replace

ones I've always purchased from "The Fit Life" (TFL)

(23dB), as Amazon had dropped them. Finally found an

online source for TFL, but ZOUND performs well. I found

that they are a little small for my ear canals so I have

to work to remove them.

o My BMW NAV V internal storage expansion microSD card

had to be increased from 32GB to 64GB as the latest update

from Garmin needed more space. The Garmin required that

it have a FAT32 filesystem on it, but it defaults to ExFAT

from the store. Eventually found that the downloadable

utility RUFUS was able to select FAT32, and it finally

took the latest North America mapping files.

o Who uses Foremost/AARP for your Motorcycle Insurance

carrier??? Are they good/bad? Cost comparison? Have

you found a better Insurance carrier for the money?

I've been getting ad's from them through AARP.

o While creating the Lone Star RTE, I had to generate a

GPX file (to download into Garmin GPS) using a googlemaps

route. Having problems finding a good tool to do this.

I'm told Scenic is the way to go, but it still requires

an Apple/MAC to run. Looking at a new laptop now. Anyone

have any good alternatives?

Action Items ...

o Start a thread for those interested in utilizing the

two camping cabins we have reserved for the Club Rally

at Lake Fayette starting October 30.

o Club 60th Anniversary at the Rally needs to have some

goodies for all to commemorate. Maybe a cake, or

Coffee cups.

o Next Club meeting will be at WOLFSMITHS on 8/8/2026,

and it starts at 8AM again per Fernando!
